Credible Messenger Program

Administrative Assistant (full-time)

The Administrative Assistant is a full-time position within the Credible Messenger Program, which serves as second in command in the absence of the Program Coordinator. The Administrative Assistant is responsible for performing all administrative duties w/in their assigned location, overseeing the documentation of mentors and communicating effectively with the Credible Messenger Executive Team as well as the Department of Youth and Rehabilitation Services.

 

Lead Credible Messenger (Transformative Mentor, full-time)

The Lead Credible Messenger is a full-time position. The Lead Credible Messenger is responsible for facilitating counseling groups and engaging in individual counseling with DYRS clients between the ages of 14 – 21. Credible Messengers possess knowledge of the juvenile justice system and outside referral systems in the District of Columbia. Credible Messengers must have an understanding of family structures such as blended, single-parent, dual-income, and/or grandparents raising grandchildren, etc. The candidate must be familiar with social service organizations, DCPS, DC Housing, DC Courts as well as mental health, substance abuse and teen programs.

The Credible Messenger Initiative utilizes a group mentoring component that helps court-involved young adults transform the attitudes and behaviors that led to their criminal activity and increase a sense of commitment to community. The goal of the program is to help committed youth transition successfully out of the court-involved system by strengthening their attachment to educational, employment and mentoring opportunities. The core components of Credible Messenger Model include:

  • A restorative justice group process where youth and families reconnect to their community
  • A Covenant of Peace curriculum delivered by culturally competent mentors
  • Individual sessions that focus on the goals identified in a youth’s individualized development plan


Credible Messenger (Transformative Mentor, full-time)

Peer Credible Messenger (part-time)

The Peer Credible Messenger is part-time position. Peer Credible Messengers are responsible for recruiting mentees and working with the Program Coordinator and Credible Messengers to serve as leaders for their peers by assisting and encouraging other youth as they progress in the community; they will serve as models for their peers as they effectively demonstrate the qualities and attributes of a successful youth; they will serve as advocates for their peers as they work closely with the team in decisions and ideas that directly impact youth functioning and success; and they will strengthen their own coping skills and life skills as they maintain stability in the community and with their goals.

  • Community health workers

Safe Passage – Part time helpers who help get kids into and out of school safely. They are posted on a street or near a metro stop, during morning and afternoon transit hours.

Summer camp interns

Tutors for social/emotional academic learning loss – Positions are for year-round before and after school programs.
